HCHS Foster Network
We believe that the quality care we offer to animals extends well beyond the confines of our shelter. Our committed network of foster parents provides loving care to puppies, kittens, adult dogs, and cats, as as other animals needing healing or some extra TLC. Together, we make sure that each animal gets the attention and support they need before they find their forever homes. Be part of the change and help us make a difference in the lives of these wonderful animals!
Placements can range in length from just a few days to several weeks depending on the animal's needs. While fostering can involve some challenging situations, the program is structured to make fostering an easy and rewarding experience!
Fostering an animal is not only a fun and rewarding experience, but it also gives you the satisfaction of helping a pet in need while preparing them for adoption. Our dedicated network of foster volunteers ensures that we can provide specialized care to more animals, freeing up space in the shelter for additional homeless pets. Plus, you get the joy of having a wonderful companion without the long-term commitment. Getting started is simple, and we’re here to provide all the supplies and support you need!
Providing Love and Care
A "foster" for an animal refers to a person who temporarily takes in an animal from a shelter or rescue organization, providing care and a home environment until the animal is ready for adoption, essentially acting as a temporary caregiver until a permanent home can be found. If you are interested in adoption you will need to fill out an adoption application.

Pick Up Your Foster
Once you are an established foster family, we will contact you based on your preferences when we have animals seeking foster homes. We'll give you an estimate of how long you will foster the animals, along with their needs. We have opportunities available ranging from a few days to several months and have foster animals that will fit almost any lifestyle and schedule. You can foster a couple of times a year, or have foster animals all year round.
Find a Home
Foster families bring foster pets to the shelter for any scheduled recheck appointments, vaccinations, or surgeries, until they are ready to be adopted. Worried about bringing your animal back to the shelter? We encourage foster families to help find homes for their foster pets. After your foster pet has returned to the shelter or has been adopted, let us know when you are ready for another.
